WHERE CAN RECORDING BE DONE?

It would depend on what needed to be done. Since the studio is a one room operation, things like vocals, acoustic guitar, etc can be done here on-site. Recording a full band can be done just about anywhere, really, with a few minor exceptions.

Due to very strong allergies, I am unable to work in an environment with cats. Sadly, no amount of medicine makes this possible, and I apologize in advance for any inconveniences this may cause. If you wish to record in an environment shared by cats, we can discuss alternatives such as a local rehearsal studio or something suitable. Note: Simply moving the cat to another room does not alleviate the issue. We tried, it didn't work, thankfully I'm still here to write the answers to these questions; I'm sure you can figure out the details.

Where did the internet radio station go?

The internet radio station has been discontinued. We offered internet radio broadcasting services for some time, but after considering its impact and limited audience participation, it was deemed not an effective service to offer at this time.  You can listen to old radio shows by clicking this link. We are working on bringing out something to replace the radio station in the coming months. Be sure to join our e-mail list so you can find out this new feature is available.

Will I have to sign a contract to work with JBRecording?

The short answer is, yes. The longer answer is that this is for both of our protection. You are in complete control during the length of time we work together. The agreement signed by both of us simply outlines each of our responsibilities; JBRecording to provide the services you request, and you to pay for services rendered. The document is intentionally written in plain English to avoid confusion; I enjoy reading legalese as much as the next guy/gal, so I did my best to avoid it where possible.  You have the power to cancel the agreement at any time; if you choose to do so, all I'd ask is your payment for services rendered up to that point. Pay for what you've used. The document simply states what each side is agreeing to. This is common in freelancer-type situations as well.

How do you define "Songwriting Collaboration" as one of your serviceS?

"Songwriting Collaboration" is a way I collectively identify anything I can do to help someone finish writing a song. If you have a melody and some lyrics in mind, I can help you add structure to the song and help add any finishing touches to make it a complete song. I can also produce a recording of the song for you to then do with as you please.  As far as copyright goes, all artists fully own their own material unless we specifically agree on other terms.

What are your rates?

My rates vary based on the scope of the project and needed equipment. We'll discuss what you're looking to do, and based on that we can discuss payment options. If you're looking for an estimate, or to plan for a future session, my rates begin at around $40/hr with a minimum of 2 hours.  Each project is quoted separately. Contact me via the contact page if you are interested in booking time.

Do you charge for travel?

For destinations beyond 25 miles outside the city limits of Austin, TX, additional travel costs may apply. Please contact me to arrange specifics.

How far in advance can I book a session?

Typically anyone can schedule a phone call or session within the next few days or weeks. If you'd like to book further out, please e-mail me  with your intentions and we can go from there.

How will I/we receive our finished mixes once we have finished recording? Can you describe the mixing process?

Sure. Before recording begins we'll discuss the timeline of your project, i.e. "when you'd want everything to be finished by."  This will be the latest date you will receive the finished mixes. The date chosen will depend on the scope of the project as well as any other projects currently active in my studio. Usually it is no more than a few weeks after the last material is recorded. The files will be available on a server account which we will set up prior to working. If you have any specific requests or needs regarding delivery, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate them. Due to tax laws, all content must be delivered digitally. Generally speaking, I will work on the songs when I can fit in a few hours here and there, so it may not be possible for you to attend every mix session. If you wish to be present for the final mix, that can be arranged. I will usually send rough mixes out periodically for feedback, changes, etc.

Do you allow photography during sessions?

Certainly. You are welcome to take any pictures you like before or after the session, but to foster a positive work environment I ask that photography be limited during the course of the recording.

Can my boyfriend/girlfriend/sibling/mother/father/etc sit in and watch us record?

Typically, it is best to have as few extra people in the studio as possible. This helps maintain an efficient working environment and provides the least amount of distraction. If the space permits and your guest is able to occupy themselves during the recording session, it should not present a problem. If any issues arise, however, the guest will be politely asked to wait outside or return at the end of the session. This, of course, is intended to foster an effective and efficient work environment.  A parent or guardian will need to be present for anyone under the age of 16 wishing to record.

I noticed you offer On-site A/V Support. Does this mean you do live sound?

Yes. I can accommodate a small band/ensemble; i.e., a wedding band or jazz trio.  A/V support also includes meetings and events requiring a projector, computer running Powerpoint/Keynote etc.

Do you offer internships? Are you hiring?

Occasionally, I might need an extra set of hands hauling equipment or operating a session. If you would like to be contacted to assist on such an occasion, please send me an e-mail, and I'll keep you in mind should the need arise. I'll gladly show you the ropes and teach you what I'm doing while working. You won't be considered a box-hauling mule, I assure you!  Please stay tuned to the JBRecording Facebook page for any updates. If I am looking for anyone I'll certainly be posting there.

Does JBRecording offer any video production or photography services?

While not in the recording studio, John enjoys photographing nature and anyone willing to get in front of the camera. That being said, if you'd like to arrange for promotional shots or cover art photography, please mention that when booking your session and arrangements will be made. To view John's photography portfolio, please visit jbrecording.500px.com  - If you'd like photographs taken during a recording session, please discuss this when booking your session.

How can I sign up for the JBRecording E-mail List?

Click the button on the bottom of any page of this website. You'll receive a confirmation e-mail to sign up, then that's it. Every time a new blog entry is added, it will be delivered to your inbox. There may be incentives sent out to those on the e-mail list from time to time as well, so it pays to sign up. Your e-mail information will NOT be shared with anyone else, so no spam will come from this.

What styles of music can JBRecording work with?

JBRecording can accommodate music in just about any style. Lately our work has been focusing on acoustic-guitar-driven pop/rock, gospel, R&B, singer/songwriters, etc. We have recorded full rock bands in the past as well.  We welcome all styles - if you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to contact me with your questions.

I am a hip-hop artist. Does JBRecording offer any pre-made beats for sale?

At this time we do not offer any pre-made tracks for sale.

Please don't hesitate to e-mail me with any questions not displayed here, or if I can be of any further assistance.
